Explore the area

Mid-October is a beautiful time of year in the Hudson Valley (peak foliage!). We’ve visited many times for hiking, birthdays, and more.

We're excited to bring you here to celebrate with us — here are some tips if you get the chance to explore before you return home.

Hudson (10 minutes away)

Downtown Hudson, NY
Cute and walkable downtown full of restaurants, shops, antiques, and art galleries. If you take Amtrak, you'll end up here!

Ghent (25 minutes away)

Art Omi
Of the many sculpture parks in the region, this is the closest to the Hudson area and the most bite-size. We went this past summer with friends — you can spend half a day here and see everything comfortably.

Saugerties (25-30 minutes away)

Saugerties Lighthouse
A working lighthouse turned B&B — we've stayed, it was great! Bookings are full for 2021, but the nature preserve is open to the public for hiking, and hopefully the riverside deck will be open by October for picnics.
Opus 40
A single 6.5 acre earthwork sculpture built by a single artist over 37 years (whoa) called the Stonehenge of North America.

Catskill Mountains region (30 minutes away)

Kaaterskill Falls
A half-mile, moderately steep hike to a 260-ft. waterfall. Check the website for latest guidance on trailhead parking.

Kingston (30 minutes away)

Stockade Tavern
For an evening adventure, we encourage you to venture south to visit this fantastic cocktail bar in Kingston’s walkable Stockade District — owned and run by Anna’s cousins Paul and Jenny!

Beacon / Newburgh area (~1 hour away)

Dia Beacon
Formerly a Nabisco factory, now a skylight-filled contemporary art museum. Head to nearby downtown Beacon afterwards.
Storm King Art Center
A bit of a longer adventure — but well worth it — this 500-acre sculpture park is the crown jewel of NY outdoor artventures, truly stunning.
